Статуите на гуанчес в Канделария

Тенерифе, Испания

The Canary Islands were home to one of the most mysterious ancient population groups known as the Guanches. Although it is not clear how they arrived on the islands, it is known that they shared some cultural characteristics with the ancient Egyptians and their building style, which was later carried to South and Central America.

To get a better idea of the appearance of this population, statues of Guanches have been erected in many places around the islands. The most interesting is the composition representing the Guanches kings in the city of Candelaria. All 9 statues are lined up in the square near the city's basilica and proudly contemplate the sea.
