The temple is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. It was built on the plain in the area of ​​Ephesus. According to Strabo, the temple was built and destroyed seven times. Its architects were Theodoros of Samos, Kersiphon and his son Metagenes of Knossos. The remains of the temple date from the 7th century BC. Originally a sanctuary of Cybele was located here. The temple had 127 columns with a height of 20 m with Ionic capitals. The dimensions of the temple were 55 x 115 m. In 356, Herostratus burned the temple to the ground. On the same night, Alexander the Great was born. In 262 AD. the temple was completely destroyed by the Goths.
